What is the GROW Model in coaching?

- How will you evaluate if the issue has been solved?

Reality
After set goal, the next step is ssess and describe the current situation or reality. This step will help you an idea of how far you are from achieving the goal.
The following are the common grow model questions that help achieve clarity in terms of reality:
- What steps have you taken so far to achieve the goal?
- What motivates you to walk towards your goal?
Options
When you know how far you are from achieving the goal, you will have choices suitable for success as soon as possible. So, the third step in the GROW coaching methodology is to develop ideas and alternatives that lead you towards the goal.
This is a stage which supports leaders in determining how to bridge the gap between the reality and their desired roadmap towards the goal.
The following are the common grow model questions that help achieve clarity in terms of exploring your options:
- What are the different choices to achieve the goal?
- What are the major benefits and drawbacks of each option?
- What skills and abilities do you possess that will assist you reaching the goal?
- What other options can you consider to achieve them?
Way Forward
The end step is the selection of one option which is the most suitable for your company. At this point, as a coach, one’s job is to help gain true clarity about their precise next steps and commit to them
The following are the common grow model questions that help achieve clarity in terms of determining your way forward.
- Which of the options will you choose to pursue?
- When do you intend to begin each action?
- How dedicated are you about accomplishing this goal?
- What method do you wish to use to hold yourself accountable for this goal?
- What’s the worst that could happen if you don’t take action? How will you deal with this?
- How will you evaluate your progress?
How can the GROW Model improve performance?
The GROW Model improves decision making, problem solving and goal setting, and puts learning and enjoyment at the heart of performance. The simple framework is valued by leaders and coaches, whether for a quick check-in, a team meeting, a coaching or mentoring session or planning a long-term change initiative.
